Shattuck Advisory was founded by John Shattuck, a retired U.S. Air Force officer and senior weather operations expert with over 40 years of experience in satellite operations, EO strategy, and defense meteorology — including 10 years as an Air Force Civilian.
John's operational background is unmatched: he flew reconnaissance missions into typhoons with the 54th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, served as a Typhoon Duty Officer at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, and was a Launch Weather Officer for over 30 U.S. space and ballistic missile launches — earning the Air Force Association’s Best Space Operations Crew Award.
His Army support experience spans over 8 years, including a two-year assignment at Yongsan Army Installation as the Director of Operationa, where he supported Eighth U.S. Army, U.S. Forces Korea, and the joint US/Republic of Korea Combined Forces Command. He also served at Fort Stewart and with the Wisconsin Army National Guard, reflecting the embedded nature of USAF weather teams in ground component missions.
As a Meteorological Satellite Coordinator, John managed tasking and operations for PACAF’s EO assets, and later supported NRO, NGA, and other intelligence agencies. It was during this time that he developed a key strategic insight: that weather satellite imagery — often dismissed due to coarser spatial resolution — holds unique value due to its frequent revisit rate. This insight led to a decision framework still central to Shattuck Advisory today: helping clients balance high-temporal and high-spatial EO data based on real mission needs.
He has served as Squadron Commander, Deputy Group Commander, and strategic planner for a $750M Air Force weather modernization portfolio. He also authored EO-supported annexes for joint U.S.–ROK contingency plans, and directed multi-theater 24/7 operations centers.
Today, John mentors space and defense innovators through NATO DIANA and ESA BIC Prague, and advises governments, EO platforms, and startups on building EO strategies that are operationally relevant, scalable, and cost-effective.
At Shattuck Advisory, the mission is to help clients close the “last mile” — turning satellite data into clear, confident, ground-level decisions.
